Exploring the foundations and practice of Integral Mission

Should we bother about creation care? Is it really an urgent mission issue when we compare it to the war in Syria, the Rohingya refugees or thematic issues such as gender based violence? Will switching to energy saving bulbs, offsetting carbon on our flights and using more efficient vehicles, even make a difference to the melting of the ice caps?  We may even say that as we look forward to a new heaven and a new earth, let’s not waste time on the old one!!

The range and enormity of global issues today can be overwhelming.

But the issues of climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution etc. are symptoms of something far more serious - our broken relationship with the whole of creation.  To address this we need to ask the Creator and owner of all things in heaven and earth what has gone wrong and how we can work with Him to address it. We need a deeper understanding of what the Bible has to say and where  creation care fits into God’s, and hence our, mission.

Dave Bookless, director of theology for A Rocha, will share with us what God’s vision and mission for creation care is and why and how we as his people should be involved. Building on this Ruth Valerio, Global Advocacy and Influencing Director for Tearfund UK, will give practical ways we can positively impact change in and through our organisations, churches, communities and families.

By the end of the forum we hope that each of us will leave fully anchored in God’s Creation Care agenda and be equipped to play a strategic part in caring for creation.  Creation care is not simply looking after the flora and fauna; it is a serious justice issue and a significant part of God’s redemption plan. It affects us all but especially the poor, the marginalised and oppressed. It concerns all aspects of our lives, as individuals, churches and organisations, so we invite you to spend the day with us as we wrestle through the issues together.
