Moving from Aristotle to Jesus: Growing into a Flourishing Global Community

Daniel W. O’Neill

Individual flourishing cannot be seen in isolation from public flourishing, the common good. Human flourishing cannot be seen in isolation from planetary flourishing – and none of these can be fully acquired in the absence of cosmic flourishing.

Flourishing as a concept has Aristotelian and other ancient transcultural roots, has been informed and enhanced by Judeo-Christian theology, has been increasingly adopted in many modern secular professional disciplines, and can be observed to be a consistent universal goal throughout human history.

This paper proposes that the preservation and rediscovery of this principle as a common good is a reflection of God’s intentions for creation, redemption and consummation. Healing serves as the divinely-directed process by which flourishing is obtained. Moving beyond popular Aristotelian concepts of eudaimonia, healing serves as a goal (telios) of the people of God who pursue the Source of flourishing in the supremacy of Christ.

The beautiful multifaceted Effect of Compassion on Human Flourishing

René Mally

“Compassion” and “flourishing” are two themes that have been on the author’s mind for quite some time. Thankfully, Micah Global has been at the forefront of highlighting both themes through their conferences and global work. Through the article, the author wants to underline in particular that God’s mandate of a life of compassion has multiple benefits, not only for the one who receives, but at least as much, though in different form, also the giver. This truth is laid out in scripture, rediscovered by psychology, and confirmed through personal experience of the author, mainly in Peru, Myanmar and Belgium, and more recently in Papua New Guinea.

Does Integral Mission include everything that God requires of us and does God
require of us everything included in Integral Mission?

Kingdom Flourishing & Land Rights

Viv Grigg

Those societies that have clear land rights and simple processes of adjudication most rapidly utilise the wealth base of society and flourish (De Soto, 2002). Ownership is the foundation of some just aspects of Capitalism. Flourishing through capital formation as a normative life process for a disciple is not easily done unless one can buy their own home and land.

A call for epistemic justice and equality on the journey towards wellbeing and flourishing.

Helen Harrison

This paper relates to research regarding an exploration of the epistemology of wellbeing, through an international cross-cultural interrogation of the concept of wellbeing. Epistemology is an account and reasoning of knowledge and understanding. From a social epistemic perspective knowledge is constructed through interactions, testimonies, trust and social decision-making.

Eiji Matsumoto, Jose Irish Pascual, Pastraporn Sarakong, Soung Yein, Uiko Yano and Yongwhan Kim

What this sign?
The first part of the sign shows trauma is something that impacts our minds, creating memories that we relive over and over again. Trauma also pierces our heart and the impact causes us emotional pain. Now that you know the meaning, can you understand the sign? It is the sign we use for ‘T-R-A-U-M-A’.

Community Led Development: Self Help Group Practices in Nepal

Prem Singh Shintan, United Mission to Nepal

Given the failure of top-down initiatives to bring about community development (CD) in many developing countries, attention is switching to bottom-up approaches, one of which is to use community-based organizations (Okeke-Ogbuafor, Gray & Stead, 2018). The Self-Help Group (SHG) has been increasingly viewed as an instrument of women’s empowerment and incorporated as a key programmatic strategy in various women development initiative (Radhika & Banumathy, 2019).

Also in Nepal, one of the least developed countries (LDC) in the world (United Nations, 2013), SHG formation and mobilization of women groups are one of the common approaches considered by NGOs /INGOs including other development organizations.
