PHOENIX -- January 15, 2020

Food for the Hungry (FH), a leading international relief and development organization based in Phoenix, Arizona, announces the appointment of Mark Viso as the organization’s new President and CEO, effective March 1, 2020. Mark succeeds Ed Hatch, current Chief Operations Officer and interim CEO.

Mr. Viso’s love for FH started in the 1980s when he volunteered with the organization in Ethiopia famine relief. He credits that time with sparking his passion for humanitarian relief, leading to a thirty-year career helping the marginalized and poor.

“In this phase of my career, I am ready to take my grounding in Christian relief and development work and combine it with what I have learned leading large, global and complex secular organizations, and return to my roots in contributing to a biblically faith-based organization,” Viso said. “I can think of no greater privilege than to help lead Food for the Hungry at this seminal moment in the organization’s journey.”

Mr. Viso comes to Food for the Hungry most recently from the Institute for Development Impact, where he served as President and before that served as CEO and President of Pact, Inc. based in Washington, DC for 11 years. Pact, Inc. has over 5,000 staff in over 40 countries and Mark was able to lead them through years of unprecedented growth. He also spent nearly six years as a Regional Director and Senior Vice President of International Development at World Vision.

“We are very excited to have Mark joining our strong executive team as President and CEO. We believe that his skills and experiences will provide critical leadership for FH to continue to deliver on its mission. Mark also understands, aligns with, and embodies our values,” said Board of Directors Chairman Larry Jones. “Mark’s reputation as an innovative leader with a strong depth of understanding in development will help lead the talented team at Food for the Hungry as they continue to help transform millions of lives.”

Viso has been active with various global fora and initiatives including the World Economic Forum, BSR, Society for International Development, the Global Battery Alliance, and others. He has served on several boards, primarily with organizations focused on solving the challenge of poverty and marginalization.
