13 May 2015

As we continue to hear news of the latest devastating quake which struck Nepal yesterday, we have the latest report from our National Coordinator of Micah Nepal - Thir KC.

It is dated May 10th, prior to the latest quake.

It details the activities of the coalition network called the Disaster Relief Christian Community (DRCC), that has been formed from local churches and NGOs - under the coordinationg of Micah Nepal - working on the ground to respond to the immediate and massive needs in the wake of the major quake on April 25th.

Here we have the latest update and prayer requests since the new earthquake on May 12:

   ·        A new earthquake measuring 7.3 magnitude struck yesterday (12 May) at 12:50 local time. The epicenter was near the Chinese border between Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, and Mount Everest – an area already affected by the 25 April quake.

·        The Government of Nepal has reported that at least 69 people have been killed and 17,864 injured in Nepal, with an additional 17 dead in India and one in Tibet, just two weeks after more than 8,000 people were killed in a 7.8 devastating quake.

·        A medical team of  DRCC is trapped in Dolakha after earthquake yesterday. They were running medical camp in malbu Khola and after earthquake road is damaged. As we received information they are heading to district headquarter Charikot and now they are bhirkot 8 KM far from Charikot.  We are trying to bring back to Kathmandu them as soon as possible. There are 3 Indian doctors and 7 Nepali team members.

·        Another medical team are trapped in Dhunche Rasuwa. After 7.3 earthquake yesterday there were several landslides on the road. Their vehicle is a little bit damaged because of stone falling But nobody hurt. Trying to return Kathmandu by helicopter. There 3 American and one Canadian medical person from International Medical Relief.

Please continue to pray for the nation of Nepal, including its leaders and everyone involved in the relief and recovery effort.

NB: The Micah Nepal National Conversation planned for May 25th - 26th has been indefinitely postponed due to the earthquake and ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
