June 1, 2015

Dear Micah friends,

We are on our way towards the Micah Global Consultation in Peru in September. I really hope to see you all there!

We praise and thank God that He is present in Micah around the world. Over the last couple of months I have prayed regularly that the Lord show His affirmation with Micah and will bless us in the outworking of our vision and mission. We are pleased to announce one of the blessings we received this week - the appointment of Sheryl Haw as our new international director of Micah Global.

Let me take this opportunity to explain a bit of the background of this process and decision:

With the merger of Micah Network and Micah Challengewhich took place in December 2014, we as the interim International Board felt that it was wise to have an open application for the international director’s position of the newly formed Micah Global.  We wanted to be open to hear the voice of the Lord as we considered how best to guide the new Micah forward and a big part of this was exploring who should lead in the role of International Director.

Sheryl graciously helped us initiate this process through stepping down as the director of Micah Network in December opening the way for a transparent application process. During the period of time to initiate the recruitment process, the board appointed Sheryl into an interim role. An open invitation for applications was then made not only through the Micah contacts but through a variety of platforms, media outlets and noticeboards.

This last week the application procedure drew to a close and final interviews were conducted by members from the Board and from National Micah expressions. Out of the 40+ candidates, the application committee was unanimous in its assessment to offer Sheryl the role. The International Board unanimously endorsed their assessment and endorsed their decision.

We believe that Sheryl is deeply connected with the ‘frontline’ of integral mission and that she demonstrates a whole-hearted passion for all that Micah stands for. Sheryl keeps relationships at the centre - alongside her integrity, servant-heartedness and self-awareness.
We as the International Board recognized that this appointment and the future of Micah Global is intertwined with our shared commitment and responsibility to support Sheryl and Micah effectively. The growth and impact Micah is having is exciting and inspiring. It comes with its own stresses which we need to address together, ensuring that adequate capacity in administration and financial resources is given to Sheryl so as to maximize our impact. So, as we affirm Sheryl in her new role as our International Director, we invite you to support Micah.

Please stand with us as we pray for the future. We need to see what we have already and use it well as well as together raise sufficient resources to be all that God has called us to be.

Quote from Sheryl:
Thank you for this opportunity to serve. I am excited by the shared expectations and hopes we all have for the distinct role Micah has been called to play. We have the privilege of working in God’s mission, in speaking and acting together as we raise awareness about the travesty of poverty, injustice and conflict in our world. Micah represents a uniting space where we can develop our understanding of living out integral mission so as to channel our corporate strengthens and gifts in speaking truth, calling for justice and being a people of peace in a world in conflict. I look forward to our Global Consultation in September where we can discern next steps and launch our advocacy initiative.

Thank you all for standing with us through prayer  and we invite you to continue as we deliberate over the governance structure of Micah Global.

United in Him,

Marnix Niemeijer
