Announcing the publication of ‘More and Better Food’, no. 9 in the Called to Care toolkit.  The subtitle - ‘Farming, climate change, health and the AIDS epidemic’ - aptly describes the topics covered by this 88-page manual, published by the Strategies for Hope Trust.

‘More and Better Food’ is an essential guide to food security in the age of climate change and the AIDS epidemic.  It presents basic information about food and health, managing soil and water, and improving productivity through organic farming methods which also help to address the challenges of climate change.  It is particularly relevant to people living with HIV, for whom food security is just as important as medical care.

Written in clear, simple language, the book contains numerous participatory exercises for teaching new farming skills through practical activities, and is well illustrated with line drawings.

‘More and Better Food’ was launched recently at the Sustainability Centre in Blantyre, Malawi.  This was followed by a three-day training course for church and farming leaders, who will use the manual in their own communities.

The book is available from Teaching-aids at Low Cost (TALC), P.O. Box 49, St Albans AL1 5TX, U.K.; website:; email:; tel.: +44 1727 853869.  Price: £2.60.

The book can also be viewed on the Strategies for Hope website:  For further enquiries, please feel free to contact me at the email address below.
