ODA Redefined: Shift in Aid Focus

« Go back

26 February 2016

The OECD met in Paris on the 18th and 19th February to discuss changes on how official development assistance is spent and measured. The  main change being that aid resources could now be spent in country to tackle issues of peace and secutity as well as increasing refugee care costs. This would mean less funds available for overseas aid.

To read more about this meeting, their outcomes and reactions to the new definition of ODA (Overseas Development Aid), see here.

Questions arising:

Should the world's biggest aid donors be allowed to spend official development assistance in-country?

Should aid be used for defense and national security?
