Reflection from the Jubilee Centre

« Go back

22 July 2015

This encouraging reflection was shared by our member The Jubilee Centre in Zambia on the occasion of their AGM. The Jubilee centre exist to train and empower local churches and communities to "bridge the gospel proclamation with acts of compassion".

Message by the Chairman of Jubilee Centre at Annual General Meeting

The mission of Jubilee Centre is to empower churches, communities, and their leaders to grow spiritually, flourish, physically and have a voice in the world.  One of our biggest challenges is as an organization  empowering churches and communities is when to know that churches are now ready to be weaned off that we move on.  The other challenge is what kind of support we can give so that the churches can thrive and grow.  By the middle of last year we have been asking the staff on how they can support you without hurting you? We hope as we seek to look forward in our celebration of what God is doing in your churches as we support you, we will learn from you what has worked well and how we can replicate it in the years to come.

As Jubilee Centre we are full of gratitude of what Christ has freely done for us, connecting us to several churches and institutions who partner with us and eagerly show care to you by offering their time, talents, and resources that you carry out God’s mission here on earth.  As we seek to support you in your efforts to bridge the gospel proclamation with acts of compassion we are encouraged to see how some of you have grasped the message of integral mission. Like Pastor Bill Hybels of Willow Creek Church, we at Jubilee Centre believe that the church is the hope of the community when it is doing things right. Consider your impact with people living in poverty. Can you imagine how many people facing poverty would have been transformed if every church in Zambia embraced the concept of integral mission.

I am always touched to read how you’re providing for people’s physical needs. Your ministry remind me of the churches in Macedonia. Paul writes in 2 Cor. 8:1-3:  “And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability." It is encouraging to hear how AWANA, feeding program, water provision are opening doors for you to share about our Saviour and his good news for our lives.

The Jubilee Centre staff members have been enabled to serve beyond their ability because of the compassion you the churches have demonstrated in Christ. Thank you for showing how much you care with your prayers, teaching and demonstration of love. I pray that your time here will be a blessing and encouraging as you hear how we have captured your stories of hope and courage. These are the stories that encourage those who support the work of Jubilee Centre.

God bless you and have a blessed time
