Theological Educators' Consultation on HIV & AIDS - Plenary Sessions

« Go back

The Micah Network held a consultation for theological educators from the Asia-Pacific region to develop curriculum for training pastors on how to respond effectively to HIV & AIDS. The consultation took place in the Genting Highlands of Malaysia from 1-5 October 2007.

The Micah Network sought to target influential theological educators in the Asia Pacific to convince and equip them to introduce courses on HIV & AIDS in theological institutions, so as to prepare the next generation of pastors and church leaders to respond more effectively and holistically to HIV & AIDS.

The theological educators' consultation ran alongside the Asia Pacific Regional Consultation on Marginalised People – Our Christian Response, 1-5 October 2007. Attendance was by invitation only and was extended to theological educators who met the criteria set by Micah Network’s South Asia Coordinating Group:

Participants had to be theological educators:

- from an institution that can influence its peer institutions

- in a position to influence internally (i.e. Dean or Principal of the institution)

- based in one of the more vulnerable countries in the region (regarding prevalence of HIV & AIDS and poverty levels within the country)

- from an institution that is already teaching in the area of HIV & AIDS or is eager to introduce HIV & AIDS to the curriculum
