Call to Action: Creation Care

« Go back

The Lausanne Global Consultation on Creation Care and the Gospel met from 29th October – 2nd November 2012 in St. Ann, Jamaica to build on the creation care components of the Cape Town Commitment. A gathering of 57 theologians, church leaders, scientists and creation care practitioners from 26 countries drawn from Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Latin America, Oceania, North America and Europe, met under the auspices of the Lausanne Movement in collaboration with the World Evangelical Alliance. Many biblical passages, including reflections on Genesis 1 – 3, Psalm 8 and Romans 8, were reflected on, discussions and deliberations on the themes of God’s World, God’s Word and God’s Work. The resulting Call to Action was drafted, drawn from two main convictions:

1) Creation Care is indeed a “gospel issue within the lordship of Christ”

2) We are faced with a crisis that is pressing, urgent and that must be resolved in our generation

The hope is that the Declaration will not only serve as an agenda to encourage Christians everywhere to take seriously the global environmental crisis resulting from “ignorance, neglect, arrogance and greed,” to overcome the traditional dichotomy between evangelism and socio-ecological responsibility, and to become actively engaged in practising and promoting the care of God’s creation.

Organisations are encouraged to sign onto the Call to Action here.
